Whether you've never been underwater before or you hold an Advanced certification, Cozumel offers one of the world's great dive experiences. Here's how to make the most of your time below the surface.
Jacques Cousteau put Cozumel on the dive map in 1961 when he called the Palancar Reef one of the most beautiful dive sites in the world. More than 60 years later, that assessment still holds.
Cozumel is famous for its extraordinary underwater visibility. On a clear day you can see more than 100 feet in any direction, far better than most Caribbean dive destinations.
Cozumel is the drift diving capital of the Caribbean. The current carries you effortlessly along spectacular reef walls, making it one of the most relaxing ways to explore underwater ecosystems.
The Mesoamerican Barrier Reef runs through Cozumel, and the combination of current and nutrient-rich water creates a biodiversity that rivals any reef on the planet. Sea turtles, eagle rays, sharks, and hundreds of reef fish species.
The Cozumel Reefs National Marine Park is a protected UNESCO site. Strict conservation rules have preserved the reef quality in ways that most dive destinations cannot match.
Three options for three different experience levels. All are guided, all include equipment, and all depart from the cruise pier.
No certification required
Discover Scuba is a supervised introduction to scuba diving that requires no prior experience and no certification. A PADI-trained instructor teaches you the basic skills in a controlled setting before taking you underwater. You'll breathe underwater, equalize your ears, and explore Cozumel's reef in the same session, all in one day.
Certification not required
Our Beginner Boat Dive is for guests who have completed a Discover Scuba program previously or who have some comfort in the water and want a guided shallow-water reef experience. This is a supervised dive with a certified guide in the water at all times, exploring Cozumel's shallow reef systems.
Requires PADI Open Water or equivalent
Two dives on the same trip, visiting different reef sites. Our certified diver tours go to Cozumel's most celebrated sites: Palancar Reef, Colombia Wall, Santa Rosa Wall, and more. These are drift dives, which means you're carried gently by the current through coral formations, one of the most relaxing and visually stunning dive styles in the world.
All levels
Towering coral formations and swim-throughs. One of the most photographed reefs in the world.
Intermediate to Advanced
Sea turtle colonies, large pelagics, and extraordinary diversity in the deep sections.
Intermediate
A dramatic vertical wall drop covered in black coral and massive sponges. Best drift dive on the island.
Beginners
Shallow, calm, and teeming with starfish. Perfect for first dives and snorkeling alike.
Basic swimming ability is recommended. You don't need to be a strong swimmer, but you should be comfortable in the water. For Discover Scuba, your instructor will be with you the entire time.
A full Open Water certification requires multiple dives and online coursework, which can't be completed in a single port day. However, your Discover Scuba dives in Cozumel count toward PADI certification if you complete the full course later.
Many people who think they're claustrophobic find scuba diving comfortable because the underwater world is wide open. That said, it's worth mentioning to your instructor before the dive so they can give you extra time and reassurance during the descent.
PADI Discover Scuba is available for children 10 and older. The 2-Tank certified diver tours are for adults 18+ or accompanied minors 12+ with a guardian.
No experience needed for our Discover Scuba tour. Certified divers can book the 2-Tank Boat Dive. All equipment included.
