We recommend buying one-way tickets instead of round trip. This way you don't have to rush back for a specific return time. Ferries run all day until 10 PM, so just buy your return ticket when you're ready to leave Cozumel.
The ferry from Playa del Carmen to Cozumel takes approximately 30-40 minutes depending on weather and sea conditions. We recommend arriving 15-20 minutes before departure to board comfortably.
The ferry costs about 250 pesos ($12 USD) one way or 500 pesos ($25 USD) round trip for adults. Children ages 2-12 pay 200 pesos ($10 USD) one way or 400 pesos ($20 USD) round trip. Infants under 2 ride free.
Both Ultramar and Winjet have ticket kiosks right before the ferry pier in Playa del Carmen. You can also purchase tickets online in advance. We recommend buying one-way tickets so you don't have to rush back for a specific return time.
Both Ultramar and Winjet offer similar service, comfort, and pricing. Ultramar is the more established company with slightly newer boats. Either one will get you to Cozumel comfortably. Between the two companies, ferries depart roughly every 30 minutes.
From Cancun, take an ADO bus or colectivo to Playa del Carmen (about 1 hour). The bus drops you within walking distance of the ferry terminal. Alternatively, arrange a private transfer or rent a car.
