How Much Time Do You Actually Have in Cozumel?

Docking times vary dramatically by cruise line and ship. Here’s a real breakdown of arrival and departure times, plus exactly which tours fit within your available hours ashore.

Not All Port Days Are Created Equal

A Carnival ship might give you 10 hours in Cozumel. A Princess ship on a different itinerary might give you just 5. And that’s before accounting for disembarkation lines, tendering delays, or the inevitable 20 minutes you spend in the pier shopping area before you even hit the street.

The table below shows typical arrival and departure times by cruise line. These are general ranges based on common Cozumel itineraries. Always confirm your exact times on your ship’s daily schedule the night before you arrive.

The key number to know is not your departure time. It is your all-aboard time, which is typically 30 minutes before the ship departs. That is the hard deadline. Miss it and you are flying to the next port at your expense.

Tender vs. Pier Docking: What It Means for You

When a ship docks at a pier, you walk off the gangway directly onto the pier. Quick and easy. When a ship tenders, it anchors offshore and small boats ferry you to land in batches. This takes significantly longer and is weather-dependent.

What Tendering Means for Your Shore Time

  • Tendering adds 30 to 45 minutes to your morning disembarkation

  • You must take a tender back in the afternoon. The last tender is usually 30 minutes before all-aboard

  • Rough seas can slow or cancel tendering. Your ship may keep you aboard or dock late

  • Independent tour operators will adjust start times if your ship is tendering, so always communicate your situation

  • Cozumel has plenty of pier capacity, so tendering is relatively rare here compared to other Caribbean ports

Good news: Cozumel has three modern piers with ample capacity. Most cruise ships dock directly, and tendering is the exception rather than the rule here. Check your ship’s daily program the night before arrival to confirm.
